The Back of the Yards community joins Canaryville in making up the combination of residential and industrial communities which form New City, an amazing neighborhood just south of downtown Chicago—approximately four miles SW of the Loop—with lots of amazing things to do. Originally earning its name from its proximity to the former Union Stock Yards, the community is now known for its ethnic diversity, access to public transport, and neighborly spirit. Not to mention its closeness to downtown Chicago as well.
